The Time of "the Day of the Lord"

To many people, “it is the Day of trumpets”, yes! To others, “it is the Day of Judgment”, yes! And to some, “it is the Day of God's wrath”, yes! God is so emphatic about the Day of the Lord and the manner by which that day shall be expressed! It is not the day of godliness. So, what day shall it be? Let's open up the volume on the Day of the Lord. Honestly, the Day of the Lord is a period of God's dominance in world affairs. His prevailing force in every activities of man causes man to ponder on the consequences of what is befalling mankind. It is one of many dividing times in God's agenda for man and a period of defining moment that subdue all authorities of man. Amos 5: 18 – 20 “Woe to you who long for the day of the lord! Why do you long for the day of the Lord? That day will be darkness, not light. It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear, as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him. Will not the day of the Lord be darkness, not light- pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?” The Day of the Lord is rather a period of religious backwardness and irrelevant practices in the act of worship as displayed by man. Amos 5: 21 – 24 “I hate, I despise your religious feast; I cannot stand your assemblies. Even though you bring me burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them. Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-ending stream!” The Day of the Lord is presented in Zephaniah 1:14 – 18 as a period of great disaster. “Listen, the cry on the day of the Lord will be bitter.” The economic recession that started in 2014 brought bitter experience to the nations of the world. “The shouting of the warrior there,” the world powerful nations represented by United States and China engaged in talks of armament control, 2018. “That day will be a day of wrath, distress and anguish,” as represented by Corona virus plague, deadly demonstration such as EndSARS, Capitol, and Vaccines disturbances, 2020. “A day of darkness and gloom” as represented by death and sorrow; “clouds and blackness” as represented by Climate change and uncertainty. “A day of trumpet and battle cry….fortified cities and corner towers.” As represented by angelic messages' concerning the Holy lands and high places in the future plans of God. “Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them;” as represented by the monetary debased/devalued of world currencies. Interestingly, the day of the Lord is a period of God expressive anger on the system of earthly authorities. It is simplify with punishment and wrath and the absent of leniency. The book of Zephaniah presents it in detail and serial occurrences. In 2014, world (economic) recession and political instability brought bitter cries in the world; followed by Arms trading among super power nations in the name of ammunition control. The fallout of ammunition talks between United States and China instigated the outbreak of Corona Virus which turned out as God's plague on the nations of the world. Distress and anguish set in when the pandemic circles the universe; protests occurred in major cities of the world. And, a significant number of deaths have been recorded all over the world to attract public sympathy. After the corona virus, climate change was the next world issues tabled during the 76 session of UNGA, and the Glasgow climate change conference in Scotland in 2021. The blowing of the trumpet is a two-fold gospel message that will attract the blessing of heaven in time to set apart the fortified messages directed to the holy people and high places. Finally, the merchandise of the world will still trade unassumingly, yet the world currencies will decline in value and in standard of living. Zephaniah projected the message in the modern form and stresses that the Lord will also punish those who fear stepping on the threshold, as prince and king’s sons; but, filling the temple with violence and deceits. Yet, on that day, the period of “the day of the Lord” God will prepare a sacrifice and consecrated those He invited. (Zeph. 1:7-9)
